Rubber Ducky, You’re the One, You Make Pittsburgh Oh So Fun!

Share

Rubber Ducky we are oh so fond of you!!!!

Ernie would LOVE this four story high rubber ducky that landed in Pittsburgh last week.

It’s created by a Dutch artist and this wacky ducky sculpture has been in Amsterdam and Hong Kong, just to mention a few stops along it’s journey.

It’s huge, it’s yellow, it’s VERY simple, yet it brings so much joy to the kids and adults who saw it floating near the Pittsburgh Fountain at the point.

But I couldn’t help but wonder why this simple rubber ducky is causing so much fuss, and drawing such large crowds. What if it was a giant deer in a park instead?  Is it the size of the duck or the fact that it is a duck and not a deer? Maybe I am over thinking it – or maybe the fact that I am thinking about it makes it a piece of art.

Anyway, my twins loved it, and Sesame Street’s Ernie would have gone gaga over it! So I will call it a successful day out in the lovely city of Pittsburgh!

  1. I hope this Rubber Ducky comes back to Hongkong. We’ll be there next month and it would be nice if my son could see this. :)

What fun! Not sure I would call it art–but it sure is a novelty to see a giant rubber ducky floating along and I wish I could see it in person!

  3. Monica says:

I LOVE that Duck! I’m hoping to take Ethan down there next weekend!! :). It makes me feel like a little kid just looking at it!! :)

  4. How FUN!!!!

The city of Huntsville, Alabama has a ducky hunt. They have 10 (or so) brass rubber duckies hidden throughout downtown. Find them all and head to the visitors bureau for a rubber ducky to call your own. :)

Just shows what can be done if you have an imagination. Great way to market something. Sure to have been a hit with all the children. And the moms. Hope you had a great picnic.

I think everyone can somehow relate to the rubber ducky. It’s a cute baby thing and so when it’s out in the open looking so massive and masculine cuteness, it just makes it so much more fun and worth looking at! I certainly LOVE it!

  11. It’s eye-catching art that’s for sure. Love your picture. I was in Pittsburgh 4 Christmases ago and remember driving across that bridge at night and marveling at the beauty of what I had assumed was just an old steel town

    • Twin Mom says:

Yes when you drive in to Pittsburgh at night from the airport, you get quite the view! Would love to see this ducky at night.

    OH THERE HE IS!!! =D
    Sure your boys LOVED HIM!!!!
