Precious Twin Toddler Moments

A special bond will always exist between twins. Whether the twins are identical or fraternal, there is a special kind of closeness, that only they can grasp, but we get a glimpse of every so often…

Nap time: Boys wake up and I can hear their little voices over the monitor. They are being awfully chatty. They sound like they have a lot of things on their mind. When I go upstairs to take a peak, I find them huddled together on the rocking chair, with books in their laps (oh, and their pacifiers too – only for naps!)

Sleepy Twins

Love you Brother

It was a very special moment, that I was glad to capture on film. It was cute how close they were AND I was proud they were reading :)

The next moment is bitter sweet. Mason hit Cameron on the head, with a red block. Hard. Cameron was a little stunned afterwards according to the nanny. I came in to find Mason in time out, sobbing. So I get the scoop from the nanny, and then go over to Mason, who refuses to apologize. Since he wont apologize he needs to go back to time out.

When my boys were little and not very verbal, they apologized to each other by rubbing the other twin on the head. It has now evolved to a head rub and the words “Sorry Cameron or Masie” .

Well, I took Mason over to apologize to Cameron and he refused for about the third time. So Cameron took hold of Mason’s hand and rubbed his own head and then went right back to playing with the blocks. I found this especially touching because Cameron didn’t want his brother to go back to time out. Cameron had clearly moved on and wanted his brother to stop crying, even though Mason was the one who had hurt him.

Brotherly Love xoxo

Not all twin moments are perfect. They are toddlers after all, and we are working hard on sharing and playing nicely with one another. But as I have learnt from all the advice you readers have given me – whatever stage we are in they will get through it and so will I :)

What stage are your kids in now, and is there a certain thing you are struggling with at the moment?

  1. That’s very sweet. Ellie and Ben, not twins and not even biologically related, made a Lite Brite birthday cake for me a few weeks ago. I walked past Ellie’s room and saw them sprawled on their bellies, heads together, talking quietly. So sweet! Cherish the memories… and even the madness.

  2. Mine have huge debt from law school/graduate school, and jobs that won’t cover their payments as their stages in life;) I would love to get to that stage, where we truly don’t have to worry about them.

Oi Vei! Not looking forward to all that debt! I bet you are proud to have them in higher education though!

  3. OUPA says:

I am so proud of Cameron. Turning the other cheek. So cute that he took Masons hand and put it on his head. So special.

  4. Susan says:

I think having twins would be so amazing. I can imagine that there are many challenging moments, especially in the very early months, but these kind of memories more than make up for them! So cute.

  5. Christy says:

My sisters are twins and they do have a special bond. They are now grown up but as kids they always had fun and someone to play with.

  6. Pamela R says:

I’m in the 7-11 stage and with boy(7) and girl (11) most days they get along well, but we have the “hit in the head with a block” moments too then they are sent off to their rooms to read.

Good luck mama! That “down time” can really be life saving – everyone gets a little air, and can return and revisit later if needed.

  7. Sista says:

It’s nice to know that Cameron could forgive his brother, and very sweet that he took his brother’s hand and put it on his head to symbolise forgiveness. But then again Cameron knows what it’s like to be on the naughty step too! Glad it was all resolved in the end.

  8. That is a special twin moment glad you had your camera handy! My guys range in age from 2 years old on up to 15, so I deal with a range of things from, toddlers learning to share to reminding my teenager to put deodorant on :)

    • Twin Mom says:

I can only imagine! Running around with twins I almost need a reminder myself to brush my hair, put deodorant on – you get the picture! 😉
