Online Worlds Collide in Pittsburgh, when Mommy and Travel Bloggers Meet!

Blogging for over a year, you get to discover some favorite blogs and some favorite people. Stars had aligned and I was about to meet my favorite travel blogger in person!

For the 4th of July, travel blogger Karen and her family were heading to Ohio, and I begged her to stop in Pittsburgh.

The invite was accepted and the pressure was on to show the best that Pittsburgh had to offer to Karen in a 24 hour period.

What else could we do but head up to Mount Washington to see the spectacular view of the city from up high? This is the best view of Pittsburgh – day or night!

So we headed to Station Square where we parked and then used the Monongahela Incline to get up the mountain. I wrote an article for Karen about “Pittsburgh’s Top 10 Activities for kids”, and Station Square and the incline made the list – you can read it here.

At least one family knows how to pose :)

Pittsburgh is known as the “City of Bridges” so when we got to the top we tried to count how many bridges we could see from the look out.  The city was definitely showing off for my friends.

We explored Mount Washington, and the fun part for me was discovering some new parts of Pittsburgh – we discovered a great mural on one of the walls.

We then went back down the incline to Station Square – on the trip down I took photos of Karen taking photos for her travel blog (read it here). And this my friends, is how the magic happens :)

Back down in the square we lucked out into some train spotting… I feel these pictures exemplify what this old Steel town is all about – trains, steel and bridges!

And our hot July day ended with the kids dancing in the spray from the musical fountain :) Unfortunately my battery died just before, but it’s one of those moments I will just have to carry with me in my mind. Here is a special photo I snapped just in time… the families really bonded in such a short time.

Karen and her family were so easy going and wonderful. Her love of family which is so obvious online was magnified in person. She is a brilliant business women, wife, mother and an extremely talented writer. I encourage you to visit her travel blog, Family Travels on a Budget for her version of the trip, and for any travel questions you may have.

Oh and her husband’s bacon cooking skills should be legendary! MMMMMmmmm still thinking about that bacon!
