Picture it: driving to work on a regular Monday, you look up and notice the Andy Warhol bridge has been completely covered in art!
Warm, knitted, cozy art.
Apparently for Warhol’s birthday hundreds of volunteers in and around Pittsburgh, got together to knit the bridge a sweater. Knit the Bridge took over a year to pull this together, using over 600 blankets (which will be cleaned and donated afterwards) to cover the entire bridge.
I wanted a close up view of this beauty, so the twins and I went and met their cousins downtown for a closer look.
The bridge is covered in amazing color, texture and designs, but the kids were also interested in the wide city beyond. They spotted some ducks in the water way below and a train on the bridge beyond.
We ran along the bridge, which is usually bright yellow, and made sure to pose at our favorite designs. People were very creative – we spotted zigzags, triangles, a Mondrian inspired blanket and even some camouflage designs!
After the posing got dull (how could it??) there was some dancing on the bridge, running around and a show of strength as cousin J tries (and succeeds) to pick up the twins!
Pittsburgh was showing off! We really liked the magnificent Andy Warhol bridge all covered in yarn! And I have a sneaky suspicion that he would have like it too!
Happy Birthday Andy Warhol!
