A “Twin Rule” For Crazy Moments.

Mischievous Twins! Photo by RDM Photography

True story….

As I am taking the stairs, two by two, I say to the twins:

I am just getting your socks from upstairs.

I hear this in response:

Beep, beep, beep! (The sound that signals one of the doors have just been opened!)

Thump, thump, thump….back down stairs I see the front door open! As I race outside to get my son, I pass the other one (Mason) sitting on his haunches in the middle of the dining room table!

I say “pass”, because that’s what I did, ran passed my son on the dining room table so that I could rescue the one outside!

And there was Cameron in socks (!!!) running across the porch. I sling him into my arms, run back inside and rescue the other!

Honestly – I was gone two seconds! I had to giggle to myself at the craziness of it all!

It’s in situations like this when I clearly remember my friend Missy’s advice to me. She had twins first, and patiently answered all my questions and calmed all my fears.

I asked her, “Missy what do you do if a twin goes one way and the other twin runs in the opposite direction?”

She said, “Leigh, you always help the one in the most danger first”

So that is my twin rule that I live by:

Always help the one in the most danger first!

This has kept me out of the news so far!

What’s the best advice you have ever received?

  1. Missy says:

Haha, strong advice. Love you sister- glad the clan is in tact. xox

  2. I think that is the perfect advice, but it made me think of the airplane rules, where you have to do your oxygen mask fist, then your child’s, otherwise you’re not around to save your child, right?

  3. Pamela says:

They look so cute! They are getting big! Awesome advice mama! I have been there many times!

  4. I don’t have twins but 3 kids of different ages. If they all run off in different directions I always go after the youngest first as the older ones are better equipped with knowledge on how to keep themselves safe.

  5. Oh my goodness! This made me laugh! I think if I had twins, I would keep them on a play yard/gym that’s secured when I go about my chores or just to get something in another room. I tend to panic and overreact so I can’t have them just running around! I think you handled this sooo much better that I would have!

Well Well Well, of course it had to be CEM who snuck out the door! I am laughing just a little at his adventurous streak, he’s just like his name-sake. Please note I put “adventurous” NOT “naughtiness”. I think that Missy certainly did give you the best advise ever. Not to mention the person who sold you the alarm system you have fitted in your house. Thank goodness you got the “beep beep beep” option fitted ;0)

  7. OUPA says:

How scary. Thank goodness you were so quick.
Yes. Help the one in most danger first and foremost.

Lovely picture of the boys. Please send me the others .

  8. Rosey says:

    Thank goodness for the beeps!

I love the picture, and those sweaters are awesome!
