A Personal Tribute on Memorial Day

I doubt there is one family in the world who hasn’t been touched by war in some way, whether in this generation or the ones that have come before. Today we remember all the brave individuals who have served their country in the permanent forces or reserves. Each one has given of themselves to make the world a better place.

Here are some photographs of the heroes in our family. There are many more not mentioned here, but these were the photographs I could lay my hands on today:

My father-in-law served for America:

My father served for South Africa:

My Grandfather served for England:

Each family story is so personal. Each story is emotional.

So today twins, lets honor your grandfathers, and your great grandfather.

We also honor all those not mentioned here in our family, and in those families across the world.

And today, I would also like to send some special love to my amazing sister.

Happy Birthday Caz! We love you so much xoxo

You always bring a smile to those around you!

You are one of life’s true soldiers, fighting daily to be a stronger, healthier individual.

You are an amazing woman, I am proud to call you my sister!

This was beautiful. Not only were the photographs lovely, capturing something beyond words, it’s the perfect example of what today is: Honoring heroes of today, yesterday … and the heroes of the future as well.

My hubby is military as well, and one day we will share his pictures, and it’s crazy to think one day, grandchildren will see him in his old uniform, too. :-)

  2. Christy says:

Thank you for their service for our freedom. Military life is not easy.

  3. We could never repay the brave soldiers who have fought and died for our freedom. My grandfather also served in WWII in Africa, for England and the Allies. I’m so thankful for the sacrifices he and others made, and thankful that he survived the war and I was able to know him.

I am so very grateful to Soldiers everywhere, past and present, for their bravery and sacrifices made for us all, in order to make this world a better place. Thank you for your courages efforts. Memorial Day is a great day to stop and remember those who did so much for us all. Thank you Sista for your kind words. I certainly don’t think I’m courages like a soldier but certainly do have a few battles to fight, and I do this with the love and support shown by my wonderful family and true friends around me. Thank you for being there for me always. I love you guys xxxxx

  5. Such a lovely tribute, Leigh! Thank you for sharing your story. :)

Thank you for remembering all those who served , and those who have fallen in the defense of freedom.
The photo of the girls : Caz,their friend Robin and Twin mom.

  7. My brother is home from Afghanistan, and I’m so grateful for that. I visited Arlington National Cemetery when I was a teenager, and it struck me hard. To see those endless rolling hills of white crosses stabbed my heart, and took my wind away. I have a difficult time with it actually–especially these modern, current wars.

    • Twin Mom says:

I can’t imagine the feeling of seeing all those crosses. God Bless your brother and your family. xo

  8. Beautiful… absolutely beautiful –and your sisters smile just radiates happy –thank you for sharing.
